Nith Valley Organics

Farm Update

May 8th, 2013

It has been another busy and productive week on the farm. We have continued planting out kale, cabbages, and onions, planted out the parsley and summer savory, painted a new sign, harvested for two market days and a Bailey’s Local Foods pickup, and watched with excitement as plants grew. Our asparagus is looking small but healthy; it should be ready for harvest in a couple years. The first of this season’s kale is finally ready for harvest — we’ll have limited quantities at St. Jacob’s market Thursday and Saturday, so come early if you want some. The new planting of lettuce should be ready for harvest in about a week; until then, quantities are very limited (we sold out by 7:30 am on Saturday). The first cherry tomato of the season ripened in the solarium this week; while we won’t have enough ripe ones to sell for a while yet, we’ll have plants for sale at market, and through Bailey’s, for the next few weeks.

About the Farm

Nith Valley Organics is committed to sustainable agriculture. We are currently in the process of transitioning to organic, a process we started in 2011, and which takes three years to acheive certification. We are planning on three acres of vegetable production for the 2012 season.
For more information about the farm, read the About Us page.

CSA

Join us for our second season as a CSA! We offer several share options — choose between two sizes of bagged share for on-farm pickup (with the option of ordering eggs, as well), or enjoy the freedom of our full-choice model with pickup at local farmers' markets! For more information visit our CSA page. For more information on CSAs, please visit our local CSA page.

Markets

During the summer, we attend three markets each week. This past season, we were at the St. Jacobs Farmers’ market on Tuesday mornings, Uptown Market in Waterloo Square on Thursday afternoons, and at the Aberfoyle Farmers’ Market south of Guelph on Saturday mornings. This season, we plan to continue at Waterloo Square and Aberfoyle, and we’ll also be at Montgomery’s Inn in Etobicoke Wednesday afternoons from 2 til 6 starting May 22nd. Our products are also available year-round at the farm, and through Bailey’s Local Foods in Waterloo.
